Obituary of Raymond J. McCormick
Raymond John McCormick, 66, of Brooks Maine died peacefully on January 24th, 2020 at Waldo County General Hospital after a brief struggle with liver and kidney failure. Ray’s two adult children, Amy Fiorilli and Darren McCormick, were there by his side.
In addition to Amy, Darren and their spouses, Brian and Nicole, Ray leaves behind Vicki McCormick his former wife of 40 years whom he remained close to. Also his devoted mother Jackie McCormick, his siblings and their families, Sharon Spivak, Sheldon McCormick and Glen McCormick. Ray had three amazing granddaughters and a special connection to his great niece and nephews, the children of his “best bud” Jeremey McCormick, and his wife Devon. “Uncle Ray” loved and was loved by so many. He leaves behind terrific nephews and a niece, as well as countless friends and family members too numerous to list. Amy and Darren are so grateful for the stories and the laughter that we shared with friends and family in the days before he left us.
Ray was seldom seen without a mustache and a baseball cap. He loved the outdoors and had enough stories of nature and adventures with animals to keep us entertained for a lifetime. He had a habit of training birds to eat out of his hand no matter where he went. He loved to cook and always took control of the kitchen or the grill at family gatherings. Though he might pretend frustration at the responsibility, grumble and sigh, we all knew there’s nowhere else he’d rather be. Classic Rock and Sports on the weekend were beloved past times. Ray had an eye for detail, and you didn’t ask him to help with anything unless you were prepared to take the time necessary for it to be “perfect”. He had a great laugh and loved his family. The world feels a little more empty without him in it.
The family will not be holding a service right away. Ray was not one for formal events so we are planning a celebration of life for August where we can be outside doing things he loved like grilling meat to perfection, eating lobster until our stomachs hurt, flying model airplanes into trees and watching all the kids run around in some form of controlled chaos. We look forward to creating a day together that would have been perfect to him.
