Dear Peggy,
It was with great sadness that I read about Marty's passing. We grew up in Pimlico on adjacent streets – his family on St Charles Ave and mine on Nelson Ave. I first got to know Marty (and his spiffy Mount Saint Joseph's HS corduroy jacket) when I was the Stout's paperboy. He was just as gregarious and friendly back then as he was when we reconnected in 1972 as fellow faculty at Loch Raven HS. Opening LRHS was a wonderful experience; especially for Marty who had just married a lovely woman from Maine. When I left for Dulaney, I believe it was the Thompson's who kept me apprised of what was new with you and your family. I doubt if you'll recall, but back in '86 or so, while visiting my future wife Kelly in Bar Harbor, I heard, "Hey! PHIL!"...it was you and Marty driving by. What a pleasant surprise, especially since you took the time to stop and chat. Even though our paths didn't cross a great deal after that (I was a math guy and didn't golf and Marty of course taught English and loved golf), when we did meet we often talked about those pleasant years at Loch Raven and Pimlico. He was a good man. He not only will be greatly missed by you and your family, but by so many other folks who were fortunate enough to have known Marty through the years. I hope you can find peace at this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
Phil Lieske
