Obituary of Valerie Jane Newell

Valerie Jane Newell, 75, of Rockland, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2020. She was born on February 19, 1944 in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of Kareem and Agnes (Curtis) Nichols. Valerie believed in Jesus Christ, was baptized, and was a member of New Hope Church in Bangor. She was deeply generous and was in her element when serving and taking care of others. She enjoyed her occupation as a beautician and was also a skilled bartender and waitress. In later years, Valerie worked as an in-home caregiver and was proprietor of the Monroe General Store for four years before her retirement. Valerie had a love for flowers and shrubs, and spent her leisure time planting and nurturing them and giving them to others. She was predeceased by both parents and is survived by her husband of 39 years, David Newell of Swanville; her sons, John Thomas Berry and Nicholas Newell of Bangor; a sister, Nadine LeRoy of Corona, California; granddaughter Kaylee Elizabeth Newell of Bangor; and nieces Bonnie Trupiano and Holly LeRoy of Corona, California.
