Obituary of Bud Varney

Howard “Bud” Varney 88 Born February 15, 1931, to Verna (Palmer) and Archie Varney in Pittsfield, Maine. Died December 31st, 2019, in Belfast, Maine. Bud was educated in Rockland schools. Bud joined the United States Army where he served during the Korean Conflict attained the rank of Corporal. He married Marion (Lane) in June of 1951. They made their home in Camden, Maine for a few years and then eventually settled at Marion’s family home on Richard Hill in Rockport. Bud spent the majority of his working life at Knox Woolen Mill in Camden until it’s closure and then was employed by Vision Inc. in Rockport. In 1997, Marion and Bud moved to Belmont where he loved maintaining the gardens, grounds, and buildings on their property and family time at the cottage on Norton’s pond. Bud had a love for animals, especially horses, and his bird, Joe-Joe. He even had a small monkey named GI Joe when he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He enjoyed working on and showing of his antique cars, but most of all loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Marion, in 2005, and his youngest daughter, Esther Davies in 2016; as well as his sister Helen Cross, and brothers Henry, Harold and Harvey. Bud is survived by his daughter Arlene Harriman and husband Tracy of Belmont; his daughter Susan Willey of Old Orchard Beach, son in law Chris Davies of Londonderry, New Hampshire, and nephew Richard Eaton of Waldoboro; grandchildren Traci, Debbie, Laurie, Jeremy, Rhiannon and Megan; great grandchildren John , Colby, Tasha, Audree, Trevor, Angel, Trenton and Tanner, along with several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will take place at 1pm on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, Maine 04915.
