Obituary of Pauline Joyce Hill

PAULINE Joyce (JOHNSON) HILL, 93, passed away surrounded by family on December 19, 2019 at her home in Searsmont. She was born June 14, 1926 to Crosby and Helen (Meservey) Johnson in Camden, Maine. Polly attended schools in Appleton where she played basketball. In her earlier years, she enjoyed singing with her brother, Ted and loved going to dances and Big Band music. She married Viljo Hill in 1946 and moved to their farm in Searsmont where they raised their children. Polly was a skilled gardener raising fruitful vegetable gardens and took great care with all types of flowers and plants. She was a wonderful cook and baker which she passed along to her family. Friends and family were always welcome to stop by the farm for a cup of coffee and some of Polly's baked goods. She loved the farm life which included milking the cows, haying and blueberry farming. One of her favorite things was driving the tractor during haying season. In more recent years, her love of music continued as she enjoyed singing hymns even humming with her family in her final days. She also loved listening to and meeting Daniel O'Donnell. Polly spoke often of how proud she was of her family and how much she loved them all. Her life reflected her favorite Bible verse "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matt 5:16. Polly was predeceased by her husband in 2006 and brother Ted Johnson. She is survived by a sister, Sharon Bartlett; special sister-in-law Anne Johnson; her daughters, Linda Bartlett and husband Harold, Harmony Stier and husband Robert, Pamela Riposta and husband Mark, Kimberley Sheldon and husband Tim; son Wesley Hill and wife Racquel; her grandchildren, Eric Bartlett and wife Misti, Bethany Puckett and husband Brad, Alisa Mumford and husband Philip, Travis Bartlett; Amanda Ponzar and husband Matt, Timothy Stier and wife Emily; Katherine Riposta and husband Jojo Oliphant, Andrew Riposta and wife Amber, Kimberley Weaver and husband Allen; Hannah Josselyn and husband Chris, Jordan, Cassidy and Tyson Hill; great-grandchildren: Josiah, Liam, Caleb, Chelsea, Kendyll, Taylor,Philip, Emily, Maden, Morgan, Ben, Jude, Mya; many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved so much. A celebration of her life with reception to follow will be held at 1 p.m Saturday, December 28th at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue Belfast.
