Please share a memory of Glenice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glenice M Lenfest, 90 of Northport, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday November 8, 2019 at Tall Pines, the Commons. Known as Maude to her family and friends, she was born on July 27, 1929 to Ralph and Caro (Gordon) Flanders. One of Maude’s greatest passions was genealogy. She could tell you the history of Northport, Liberty and Montville, where she grew up. She knew everyone and always had a story about their family. She was a fiesty lady and never hesitated to tell you exactly what she thought. She was a hard worker and was never too proud to do any job to provide for her family. She married Arthur at the age of 17 and became a widow at 38. She then married Elden Lenfest, who helped raise her youngest children as his own, along with his son Errol. Maude also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, music, cooking, especially molasses donuts, and spending time with her family and friends reminiscing about her life and accomplishments. Maude loved animals, especially her cats Amos and Andy. She loved anything to do with owls. You could find an owl knick-knack on any shelf in her home. When Maude was no longer able to live alone, she moved in with Ralph and Fay so she was able to continue living on the same road she had resided on for close to 70 years which was very important to her. Last year when her health started to decline, she moved to Tall Pines. Although it wasn’t home, she received excellent care and shared many stories and memories with staff and residents. Her granddaughter, Jennifer, was there every morning at 5:30 and again at night after work, to give Maude the special care only a loved one can provide. This summer Maude was able to enjoy her 90th birthday party with many friends and family members who came out to celebrate with her. Maude was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Caro; her first husband and father of her five children, Arthur Flanders; siblings, Wilfred, Burleigh and Virginia; son, Arthur Flanders; her husband, Elden Lenfest and step-son Errol Lenfest. She was also predeceased by her grandson Scott Littlefield, daughter-in-laws Kathy Flanders and Pamela Flanders who she was very close to. Maude is survived by her children: Gordon Flanders and partner Lynn, Ralph Flanders and special friend Fay, William Flanders, Caro Furbush and husband Ed; brother Kermit Flanders and sister Barbara Brown; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Maude loved that she shared her birth date with two of her great grandchildren. Maude had many special friends. She was especially close with her childhood friend Charlene Sherman of Liberty. They were involved in all sorts of shenanigans as children. When Maude married, they still kept in touch but not as often. Many years later, their children ended up marrying which brought them back together. Maude had a special bond with granddaughter Jennifer Lindsay and step grandson Linwood and partner Cheryl. Family would like to thank all of the staff at Tall Pines for the loving care given to Maude. A celebration of life with be held at 11 am on Sunday November 24, 2019 at 34 Searsport Ave, Belfast. A graveside service will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com.
