Obituary of Joan H. Kangas

Joan H. Kangas, 77, died August 7, 2009 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. She was born November 26, 1931 in Natick Massachusetts, the daughter of Richard and Lois (Brown) Hodgson. Joan graduated from Lasell Junior College. She was a loving and dedicated wife , mother and grandmother. She loved making her home and caring for her family. She also loved animals especially dogs. Joan was the editor of the Mid-Coast Kennel Club newsletter for a number of years. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and enjoying all of the family gatherings. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Onni C. Kangas, MD of West Rockport; 6 children and spouses: Kristian & Janice Kangas of West Rockport; Kristiina & John Nims of Augusta; Eric & Terri Kangas of Camden; Karen Sanborn of Thomaston; Lisa & Adam Tyler of South Thomaston; Ilmi & Brad Carter of Rockland; a brother Richard C. Hodgson of Vermont; 11 grandchildren: Wes, Brian, Bob, Doug, Kobi, Derek, Sarah, Jacob, Vieno, Jenny, and Jason; numerous nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knox Center Skilled Nursing Facility, 6 White Street, Rockland, Maine 04841.
