Janet M. FitzGerald, 78, died peacefully at her residence in Stockton Springs August 21, 2009. She was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts on April 7, 1931, the daughter of Dr. Peter and Mary (Anderson) Weiss. She worked for many years as an R.N. After her retirement she continued to help in her community volunteering her medical services. Janet enjoyed recording her family genealogy, cooking and doing banquets for her church. She volunteered many years in her home communities of Washington, Maine and Stockton Springs. She particularly enjoyed canning and cooking with her best friend, Marion Walsh. She is predeceased by two sons, Robert and Michael and a sister Betty Weiss. Janet is survived by her husband whom she would have been married to for 56 years this November, Robert E. FitzGerald of Stockton Springs; two daughters, Mary Imondi and her husband Steven of Frankfort, Miriam FitzGerald of Searsport; five sons, Steven and his wife Kathleen FitzGerald of Stockton Springs, Edward and Sharon FitzGerald of Massachusetts, Sean and Caroline FitzGerald of Rhode Island, Gerard and Susan FitzGerald of Windsor, Joseph and Sara FitzGerald of California; two brothers, Peter F. Weiss and John Weiss, both of Massachusetts; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Memorial mass will be held at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Winterport on Monday, August 24th at 11 a.m. with Fr. Shamus Griesbach officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
