She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Charles A. Carr, in March of 2008; her brother John “Jack” Somers and a son-in-law Ted Carter. Fran is survived by her four children, Charlene Cole and her husband Allen of Blue Hill, ME, Michael J. Carr of Westhampton, MA, John J. Carr and his wife Sharon of Blackstone, MA, and Kathleen M. She is also survived by ten grandchildren Joy Eaton, Shawn Carter, Margaret Carter, Nicole Carr, Matthew Carter, Timothy Carr, Christopher Carr, James Klausky, Ryan Carr, and Sara Carr, as well as six great grandchildren, Skylar, Hunter, Trevor, Jacob, Maggie, and Christopher. She also leaves behind her daily companion and confidante, her shih-zu Peppi, as well as her many, many friends at Dunkin' Donuts in Ellsworth and her church, Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellsworth. Fran moved to Massachusetts in 1951 and married Charles the following year. She moved from Massachusetts to Hancock, Maine in 1986. She was employed and also volunteered for many years in the health care profession at both Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth as well as MDI Hospital in Bar Harbor. She most especially enjoyed her time as a nanny and was well known as Nanny Fran throughout the Bar Harbor community. She volunteered for trips to Ecuador and the Dominican Republic with the Hancock County Medical Mission. She was a Eucharistic Minister, often administering holy communion to the sick and shut-ins. She also made several pilgrimages to the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in Quebec. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, Ellsworth, Maine at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 25, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fran's name may be made to Saint Joseph's Catholic Church or to the coffee fund at Dunkin' Donuts, both in Ellsworth. If you're waiting for your next paycheck and could use a free cup of coffee, stop in at Dunkin' Donuts and tell them it's on Fran. Or, if you already know where your next check's coming from, pay it forward and contribute to the fund.
