Please share a memory of Joy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
JOYCE ROBERTS GLOCK, 76, died at home on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 after a valiant fight against cancer. Born in Amesbury, Massachusetts on March 15, 1933, Joy developed an early love for language, literature and education. A member of Massachusetts Girls State and Daughters of the American Revolution, Joy graduated in 1955 from Jackson College at Tufts University. After travelling the Orient and enjoying the single life in San Francisco, she married Richard A. Glock in 1962 and spent the next 32 years in Short Hills and Hampton, New Jersey raising a family and developing many life-long friendships. During her time in New Jersey Joy wore many hats including fundraising for local educational organizations. She went on to provide administrative support at Lafayette College in both the Spanish Language Department and Williams Center for the Arts. During the 11 years Joy worked at the college, she proudly watched each of her four children graduate from Lafayette. Upon retirement, Joy traded in her professional cap for a gardener’s hat and returned to her beloved New England settling in Lincolnville, Maine. She indulged her love of travel with frequent trips to Europe as part of the Ursinus College ’54 Travelers and returned several times to her much loved Ireland. In 2007 Joy and Richard took a memorable transoceanic voyage on the Queen Mary II. Joy was active in her local community as a member of the Lincolnville Improvement Association, Tanglewood 4H Learning Center, Lincolnville Recreation Committee, Comprehensive Plan Committee, Lincolnville Bi-Centennial Committee and Camden Library volunteer. Of all the hats Joy wore, her favorites were those of loving wife, nurturing mother, doting grandmother and spoiler of dogs. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard; her four children Peter, Alexia, Tara and Neal and seven grandchildren Justin and Hannah Glock; Emma, Thomas, Margaret and Claire Sheeleigh and Bennett Glock. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and laughter. A celebration of Joy’s life will be held in the summer of 2010 in Lincolnville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Waldo County Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915. On-line condolences may be placed at www.crabielripostafuneralhome.com.
