Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Lennon

BELFAST: Mary Elizabeth Lennon, 70, died January 19 at Tall Pines Nursing Home after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born July 30, 1939 in Pueblo, CO the daughter of Betty and Robert Scott. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward Lennon of Belfast; their three daughters Jennifer Petritz and her husband William of Atlanta, GA; Elizabeth Leatherbury and her husband Edward of Charleston, SC; Victoria Dettwiler and her husband Blake of Atlanta; and five grandchildren Sophia Petritz, Annelise Petritz, Genevieve Petritz, Mary Grace Leatherbury and James Leatherbury. Mary was raised in Denver, CO. She was employed as a flight attendant for American Airlines for eight years based in New York City. After a period of twelve years spent raising her three daughters, Mary began a second career in Atlanta as a realtor. She retired in Northport with her husband Ed in 1999, moving to Belfast in 2004. Mary had the opportunity to travel most of the world with her family and the sensitivity to see beauty in everything. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Following cremation a memorial service will be held in the late spring at First Baptist Church, Belfast, with interment at Grove Cemetery. A gathering of friends will be held Saturday, January 30, from 2-5 PM at 16 Seaside Drive, Belfast. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
