Obituary of George Bud Chapin

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
GEORGE T. “Bud” CHAPIN, 83 of Camden, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 15, 2010 in Belfast after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Camden May 1, 1926, he was a son of Willard C. and Katherine A. Chapin. Soon after school, he enlisted in the Navy where he was a Navy Machine Gunner during World War II until being discharged in 1945 and then worked at the Knox Woolen Mill in Camden for 37 years. He married Georgia Richards Harriman on November 15, 1957 in Camden. Bud, as many people knew him, was a devoted family man and loved anything to do with the great outdoors - both were the two greatest pleasures in his life. He was an avid hunter, loved to fish and have conversations about the olden days. He also took great pride in being a member of Hope Community Bible Church. He was predeceased by his father and mother and his brothers, Charlie Chapin and Jasper Chapin. Besides his loving wife of 52 years, Georgia of Camden, Mr. Chapin is survived by sons, Kevin and wife Dawn Chapin of Hope, Tom and wife Patsy Chapin of Waldoboro; daughters Laureen and husband Bill Colby of Hartland, Janis and husband Tony Frost of Pittsfield; two step-sons whom he thought of as his own, Tom and wife Jill Harriman of Warren and Fred and wife Kitty Harriman of Northport; a brother Bill Chapin of Camden; brothers-in-law, Harold and wife Judy Richards, Clifton and wife Evelyn Richards of Camden; sister-in-law Florence and husband Ralph Curtis of Burlington; two nieces, 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; friends, church family and his faithful feline companion, Sam. Bud’s family would like to thank Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice of Rockland and especially his nurse, Karl, for the wonderful care and friendship he provided during his last few months. A very special thank you for the nurses of the Waldo County Hospice Unit who provided the greatest care in his final days. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17th at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Community Bible Church, 9 Church Street, Hope, ME 04847 or a charity of one’s choice. On-line condolences may be offered at www.ripostafh.com.
