Wallace R. Scribner, Jr., 88, passed away at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine on March 18, 2010. He was a former resident of Strong and currently resided at the Maine Veteran’s Home in South Paris. Wallace was born September 17, 1921 to the late Wallace Sr. and Effie Wyman Scribner of Stratton and Coplin Plantation. He graduated from Stratton High School and married Madelene Huff who would become his wife for over 60 years. Wallace enlisted in the Army Air Corps and became an airplane mechanic. He and Maddie enjoyed their travels to the many bases where he was stationed throughout the United States. After completing his tour of duty, he settled in Concord, N.H. where he began the trade of auto-body technician. The couple later moved to Industry, Maine living on Clearwater Lake. Scrib, as he was known to friends, worked for many years at Horn Motors in Farmington. His journey continued to Strong, where he purchased and renovated an old Masonic Hall as a home for his growing family. He established his own business in Farmington known as Scrib’s Auto Body, and was well regarded throughout Franklin County for his excellent mechanical and auto restoration skills. He also worked part-time for E.L. Vining & Son. In Scrib’s spare time, he loved hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He and Maddie enjoyed many camping trips in their fifth-wheel throughout Maine and Canada. They also spent many wonderful hours at the “Harris-Pasture” cabin which Scrib built on East Kennebago Mountain. It was a destination for wonderful get-togethers and cook-outs with family and friends.
