Obituary of Freddie J. Bailey

Please share a memory of Freddie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
FREDDIE J. BAILEY, 88 of Knox, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 with his devoted daughter by his side. Freddie was the only son of Fred Bailey and Estelle Howes Bailey Warman. Freddie was born in the town of Knox and resided in Knox all of his life. In earlier years he worked on farms in the area and worked in the woods cutting wood. He loved coming home with a pocket full of spruce gum!! He and Violet worked a small dairy farm of their own and later raised chickens for Penobscot Poultry. He was the basic caregiver for Violet when she developed Alzheimer’s Disease in the early-mid 80s. Freddie enjoyed visiting with his family. The last few years of his life, his daughter Joyce was his caregiver. One thing Freddie really enjoyed during the last months of his life was going for rides. Didn’t matter to where just as long as he was riding … and a bottle of root beer by his side. Freddie saw a lot of changes in his lifetime…electric lights, the phone, radio, television, cars…such stories he loved to tell to anyone who had the time to sit and listen. We don’t think of the history our elderly can share until after they are gone. Visit the elderly and listen to their stories! He is predeceased by his wife, Violet; his son, Sidney “Sonny” Bailey; three sisters, Ava Cunningham, Avis Sprowl and Julia Elwell; a half-sister Laura Higgins and his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Thompson of Unity; daughter-in-law Donna Bailey of Montville; three grandchildren, Becky Furrow and husband Jody of Freedom, Michael Bailey and close friend Kelly of Knox and Janie Gerrish and husband Shane of Searsmont; seven great-grandchildren, Mariah, Caleb and Faith Furrow, Caylee and Tayven Bailey, Alex and Cole Gerrish; a sister Sadie Ward of Searsport; many nieces and nephews. Family & friends are invited to call on Friday June 18, 2010 from 12-1 at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast where funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Liz Sullivan officiating . Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom. A reception will be held at Freddie’s home in Knox following the interment. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at www.ripostafh.com. Thanks are extended to Freddie’s doctor and staff, Home Health Care of Maine, Waldo County Home Health, Belfast Area Hospice and the family and friends who helped in spending time with Freddie.
