Obituary of Marilyn Eleta Hartford
Marilyn Eleta Hartford, 77, passed away at Sunrise Care Facility surrounded by family on November 22, 2010 from pneumonia. She was born at her grandparent’s farm on Addison Ridge, Columbia on February 15, 1933 as the first child of Wilbur and Florence (Alley) Worcester. At the age of 5, they moved to Jonesport, where she graduated from high school in 1950. After graduation, she worked for a lawyer in Machias until his death. During this time she met her husband, Norman “Pud” Hartford and they were married on February 15, 1952.
Marilyn worked as a bookkeeper at County Concrete, helped her husband buy blueberries and wreaths at their home and finally owned and operated P&M Tours, busing people to high-stakes Bingo. Marilyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, bingo, and collecting over 1000 sets of salt and pepper shakers. She loved Christmas shopping and decorating her home for Christmas. She was a member of Greenwood Cemetery Society for many years.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Pud of 48 years, her parents and two infant daughters, Candace and Stephanie Jo, granddaughter, Ashley May, parents-in-law, Frank and Bessie Hartford and a special sister-in-law, Kay Handy. She is survived by 3 daughters, Sue Grant and her husband, Terry, Missy White and friend, Tim Lyons, Addison; Joyce Wood and fiance’, Dexter Bray, Deer Isle; and 4 sons, Buster Hartford and his wife, Donna, Pensacola, FL, Brian Hartford and his wife, Sandy, Columbia Falls, Brent Hartford and his wife, Beth, Milbridge, and Barry Hartford and his wife, Diane, Columbia; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; siblings, Winnie Nelson, Thomas Worcester and wife, Lois and Morrill Worcester and wife, Karen, Columbia Falls, Carol Dorr and husband, Roger and Betty Matthews and husband, Billy, Cherryfield. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Pete Hartford and wife, Arlene, Gouldsboro and Jack Hartford and wife, Lois, Ellsworth; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Sunrise Care Facility employees for their loving care during her stay there. A service will be held at the VFW Hall in Harrington on Dec 5 at 2pm. Pastor George Woodward officating. On-line condolences may be offered at www.directcremationofmaine.com.
