Obituary of Linwood C. Oxton
LINWOOD C. OXTON, 88 of Liberty, passed away April 17, 2011 at Waterville. He was born in Liberty on May 25, 1922, a son of Lawrence and Marcia (Moody) Oxton. Linwood graduated from Walker High School in 1940, then served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a military cook and graduated from Culinary Cooking School of New York. After returning from the service, he and his father started a small sawmill, then moved on to saw for Sprowl Bros. for years and later for Robbins Lumber. Linwood loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Harriet Oxton of Liberty; his three children, David Oxton and wife Christine of Gardiner, Diane Whitmore and husband Dale of Freeport, Darlene Alexander and husband Wesley of Vermont; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29th at Grove Cemetery in Belfast with Father Mark officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at www.ripostafh.com.
