Obituary of Jacob F. Maschino

Jacob F. Maschino Sr., 73, of Pittston, died on July 15th, 2011, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a short illness, with his family by his side. He was born on June 21, 1938, in Gardiner, the son of C. Walter Maschino and Mary A. Farrell. He graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1956. Jake proudly served his country in both the Army and Air Force for a total of six years. Upon returning home, Jake met and married the love of his life, Vivian D. Goggin. He held several jobs throughout his life but was most proud of being the president of Maine Contract Manufacturing. A lifelong gardener, Jake kept himself busy growing amazing vegetables in several gardens, sharing the produce with family and friends. He also enjoyed wood working and model trains. He loved to debate anyone on any subject. Jake was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Vivian Maschino of Pittston; son, Jacob F. Maschino Jr. and his wife Linda of Chelsea; two daughters, Mary Mercier and her husband Mike of Gorham, and daughter Heather Messer of Pittston; brother Jerry and his wife Mary of Gardiner; six grandchildren: Jeff Maschino of Kissimmee, Florida; Kathryn Maschino of Augusta; Becky Wormwood, Brendan and Gavin Mercier of Gorham; and Jonathan Messer of Pittston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A formal military funeral will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Civic Center Dr. in Augusta on July 28th at 12 noon. A celebration of his life will be held immediately after the funeral.
