CHERRYFIELD - George P. Moore, 74, peacefully passed away July 19, 2011, surrounded by his family and friends at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. He was born on Feb. 18, 1937, in Cherryfield, the son of Roger and Beatrice Beal Moore. George attended school in Cherryfield and went to work at a young age after his father passed away when he was 13 years old. George married "the love of his life," Ramona Tracey Moore July 25, 1963. She predeceased him in 2005. George and Ramona settled in Cherryfield and raised three daughters. Over the course of his life, he worked in several lines of work, the most memorable, after being a Dad, was working with his brother, Peter, at Moore's Paint Shop, Steuben, and raking berries with his younger brother, Lloyd. George enjoyed spending time with his family, whether at camp with the skinny-dipping crew in his younger days or at home with his children and their families. He found great pleasure and pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be lovingly remembered by those who knew him for his unique sense of humor and tendency towards crabbiness. George was survived by his three daughters and their husbands, whom he loved as sons, Melissa Tenney and her husband, Michael, of Cherryfield, Rhonda Harmon and her husband, Jason, of Ellsworth and Holly Leighton and her husband, Joshua, of Wakefield, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Kyle Tenney and his fiancee, Chelsey Baker, Kirsten Tenney and her partner, Curtis Norton, Dillan, Lucas and Madisyn Harmon, Jesse and Noah Leighton; two great-grandchildren, Griffin Norton and Jaxson Tenney; one brother, Peter Moore and his wife, Gloria, of Steuben; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He wanted to make special mention of his Massachussets family, Rebecca "Boom-Boom" Rowe and her family; the "son he never had," Alan Rowe; his closeness to his sisters-in-law, Doreen and Gloria; as well as special cousins, Vonalee Huckins and Phyllis Dennison; his extended family, Claudette and Terry Potter and their children; a special niece, Brenda, who came to pray with him in his last hours and gave him such peace; as well as fond memories made with the Tracey family. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Ramona; his mother and father, Roger and Beatrice Moore; his parental in-laws, Elmer and Corrine Tracey; his brothers, Donald, John, Winslow and Lloyd; his sister, Pauline Rowe; a niece, Dolores; a nephew, Leroy; and one very special son-in-law, Rusty. George wished to thank the nurses and staff at Narraguagus Healthcare Facility, Milbridge; his doctor of many years, Dr. Crowley; and the nurses and staff at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, with special thanks to nurses Tiffany S. and Luanne C., who eased his passing and treated him and his family with the utmost respect, thoughtfulness and care. At their request, a celebration of the lives of George and Ramona will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at Downeast Social Hall, Route 1, Steuben. If you prefer to make a donation rather than flowers, George requested donations be sent to Strout Cemetery, care of Mabel Moore, 16 Birchlawn Drive, Lamoine, ME 04605. He and Ramona will be buried together in a private service at a later date at Strout Cemetery, Cherryfield. Arrangements will be handled by Direct Cremation of Maine.
