Obituary of Avis Norine Peters

AVIS NORINE (HUTCHINS) PETERS, 86 of Belfast, passed away September 18, 2011 in Belfast. She was born September 2, 1925 in Portland, Maine. She attended elementary schools in Penobscot, then moved to Belfast where she attended and graduated from Crosby High School in 1945. After high school, she worked at The Pier at Old Orchard Beach which she enjoyed very much. During her years of employment, she also worked at Waldo Shoe, Maplewood and Stinson Canning. She was a long-time member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary in Belfast. She loved cats especially her cat, "Baby". She also enjoyed snowmobiling, country music, word puzzles, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She enjoyed watching Red Sox games with her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Evelyn Bryant; two brothers, Carlton and Melvin Bryant and a long-time companion Maurice P. Pendleton. Survivors include her children, Carol Howard and husband Chester of Dearing, Georgia; Wayne Peters and wife Edie of Waldoboro; Scott Peters and fiance Maria Flagg of Belfast; her siblings Arlene Herrick of Belfast, Natalie Bean and husband Glenn of Hampden; her grandchildren, Christopher Howard and wife Kathy, Bradley Peters and wife Kimberly, Corey Peters and fiance Sheanna Robbins, Travis Smith and fiance Harmony Tolle, Eric Peters and girlfriend Catey Stahl; seven great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 22nd at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast where funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23rd at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Recluse Cemetery, Cape Jellison. A special thanks to the Oncology Department at Waldo County Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 22nd at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast where funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23rd at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt.
