Obituary of George Edward Bergey

George Edward Bergey, 66, of Bristol, passed away at his home on May 5, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer. George was born on June 12, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Evelyn Bergey and the late George Bergey. He grew up in the Philadelphia area, and met his future wife Margaret (Peggy) at Hatboro-Horsham High school, from which he graduated in 1963. He went on to study engineering, and graduated from Drexel University in 1968. He worked for many years as an electronics engineer and was involved in the design of medical equipment and other electronic devices, including several product designs for which he held patents. George moved to Maine with his wife Peggy and their two children in 1977, and had lived in Bristol ever since. He enjoyed traveling, boating, attending the opera, and collecting unique treasures. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Bergey of New Hope Pennsylvania; his loving wife Margaret (Peggy) of 42 years; son, Chris and wife Alexandra (Lexie) of Portland; daughter Patricia (Tuni) and husband Chris Briggs of Wildomar, California; sister Barbara of New Britain, Pennsylvania; brother Norman of Horsham, Pennsylvania; granddaughter, Lila Grey; and twenty nieces and nephews. Condolences may be made online at www.directcremationofmaine.com. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. In accordance with George’s wishes, no memorial service will be held at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
