Obituary of Effie Elizabeth Wilcox
BELFAST
EFFIE ELIZABETH (HOPKINS) WILCOX, 87, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Waldo County Hospital. Effie was born January 7, 1925 in Skowhegan, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude Hopkins of Woodstock, NB, Canada. She grew up in New Brunswick, Canada and graduated from Woodstock High School and Carleton County Vocational School in Woodstock, NB. She and her husband, Jack, settled in Augusta. She retired from the Department of Labor Employment Security Commission December 1983 after 26 years of service and then worked part-time, retiring in 1997. In 2000 she moved next to her daughter, Connie, in Benton. Upon their retirement, she moved with them to the Belfast area.
Effie is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathie and Steve Mayo of Milton, GA and Connie and Mark Brown of Northport; grandchildren, Sunshine Brown Limanni (Michael), Jamie Brown (Rob Geisser), Darrick Brown, Xandy Brown (Sherry), Dana Mayo and Kyle Mayo; step-grandchildren Laurie (Mayo) Wile, Kristen (Mayo) Patrice, and Philip Mayo and their spouses and children; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Logan Limanni, Max Geisser and Kitt Brown. She also leaves behind sisters, Helen Collicott, Ruth Schweitzer, Hazel Rowe and brother Ross Hopkins; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John L. Wilcox; sister Ferne Laidlaw and brother George Hopkins.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9th at Faith Temple Church of God, 189 Lincolnville Avenue, Belfast with Rev. David H. Rowe, nephew, officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Donations in her memory may be made in lieu of flowers to Waldo County Home Healthcare Services, PO Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915.
