Obituary of Thom Lear White

Please share a memory of Thom to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bar Harbor- Thom Lear White- 12/7/1951-9/17/2012 Thom L. White, born to Freda Dyer White and Fred K. White on 12/7/1951 in Bar Harbor, departed this realm on 9/17/2012 with his loving daughter, Genevieve, by his side to join his good friends George Kesaris, Helen Dunham, and his beloved angels Marty Douglas and Jamie Myers where there was no doubt a grand celebration. The expression on his face was “Well, I’ll be damned!”, so very obviously in awe and at peace in the end. Fif, I am sure, greeted her only child with open arms. Thom attended Bar Harbor schools, almost graduating from MDI High School, (another story!) and making many friends over the years where everyone who knew him learned quickly he was a force to be reckoned with. His imposing height and gruff demeanor might initially take people aback, but all who knew Thom recognized his gentle and generous manner, always willing to help a friend in need. His wit and macabre sense of humor delighted all he knew. For some reason his teachers never understood his depth of wisdom and definitely did not appreciate his sense of play. Their loss! He was known for his culinary expertise and hosted many memorable Bar-B-Q’s at Raggedy Ass Corner. Thom was a Jack of all Trades and Master of None, knowing something about everything and always willing to give his opinion. He had a multitude of great experiences in his life, living in Paris and travels through Europe, and memorable “road trips” across the country. He was well known for “The Bunker”, definitely an experience shared with many who will not forget. He became a Master Locksmith, drove a taxi where he transported abused and neglected children to their appointments, one of few people the kids would trust (and love), assuring them of safety and of their worth. He became a Day Trader and computer master as well. On 10/13/2002 (a Friday, of course) he married Michaela Littlefield and gained a stepdaughter, Heather Littlefield, whom he grew to love and who provided him with a grand-son, Justin whom he adored and who brought him many great pleasures. He was in the process of formerly adopting his beloved daughter, Genevieve Myers, whom he had been “Daddy” to per mutual agreement and love since 1993. He would take care of her for 2 weeks each year while her mother and good friend, Gayle, would perform active duty with the Navy. In 2005 when Thom took care of Genney for a 3 ½ months activation, they put a ribbon magnet on the frig they annotated to say “Support Our Troop”, typical of his humor. He leaves in grief, but also in admiration his daughter Genevieve Myers of NYC, and her mother/best friend of Cape Elizabeth, his dear Aunt Lola Abbott of Bar Harbor, dear friends Helen Douglas (always a constant in his life), Ronnie Frost, Fred Hunton, Robbie Bothen and Jerome Goff who were with him towards the end, Aunts Cleo and Wava, Uncle John White and many cousins, his step-daughter Heather Littlefield, who was always supportive, her son (grand-son) Justin of Bangor, and Heather’s Mother, Michaela Littlefield White of Bar Harbor. To capture the essence of Thom in print is difficult. Those of you who were friends know the man and the gentle, gentile person he was. Please help us celebrate remembrances of our times together Saturday, October 6th at the Mainely Meat Restaurant in Salisbury Cove across from Pirates Cove from 2-4PM. There will be bacon! In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Ark Animal Shelter, 60 Barber Lane - P.O. Box 276 - Cherryfield ME 04622, highly praised by both Thom and George. On-line condolences may be offered at www.directcremationofmaine.com.
