DURWOOD J. CROSBY, 86 of Brooks, passed away December 30, 2012 at Augusta. He was born in Exeter, Maine on December 14, 1926 to Leon and Fern (Nickerson) Crosby. He was a U.S. Navy Seaman aboard the destroyer USS Gyatt. He also worked for Pratt & Whitney in Wallingford, CT. He also worked for a poultry farmer in Connecticut. After returning to Maine, he and his wife eventually took over his father’s farm where they raised Broilers. Durwood also worked at the tank farm in Searsport and drove school bus before he found his niche as a carpenter. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and landscaping. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Emogene B. Crosby; two younger brothers; two step-brothers and two step-sisters. Durwood is survived by his daughter, Carolyn L. Shute of Brooks; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; twin-great-granddaughters; four sisters, two brothers; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Services will be held in the spring. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Maine Veterans' Home - Augusta, Attn: Activities Director, 310 Cony Road, Augusta, Maine 04330.
