Obituary of Verna Caro Dyer

Verna Caro (Norwood) Dyer, 86, died March 20, 2013. A resident of both Lincolnville Center and Seven Hundred Acre Island, Maine. She was born in Hope, August 9, 1926. A daughter of Earl and Lura (Simmons) Norwood. Her education began in the one room Head Of The Lake School, in Hope and was a graduate of Camden High School in 1945. She and her husband were year around caretakers on Seven Hundred Acre Island for 25 years. Here they also lobstered and picked crabmeat and raised four children. She was a long time member of the Eastern Star. She loved her family, gardening, and quilt making. She was an avid bow hunter for deer and her moose antlers proudly hang above her door. Her many adventures to the Maine North Woods often found her in her favorite wild strawberry and raspberry patches. Family and friends always enjoyed her tasty jams and jellies and she was a good neighbor to all. She also loved animals especially her cats; the latest, Toby and Bubba. Verna was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd A. Dyer Jr. and her son Lloyd A. Dyer III in 1979; her grandson, David Mahonen II in 2010 and son-in-law Michael Macaulay in 2011. Also by three sisters, Ruth Pottle, Esther Bhaer, and Justine Campbell. She is survived by her daughters, Lucille M. Mahonen and her husband David of South Thomaston; Rosemary Murphy Dyer of Bath, and Carol D. Macaulay of Seven Hundred Acre Island; daughter-in-law Kathy Dyer Paradis of Searsmont; a brother E. Rodney Norwood Jr. & wife Marian of Appleton, a sister Gwen N. Brodis and husband Dick of Hope. Five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hope Historical Society, 367 Buzzel Hill Rd., Hope. Me. 04847. There will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
