Obituary of Barry Thomas Wheaton

ALEXANDER - Barry Thomas Wheaton, 72, passed away peacefully March 21, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 16, 1940, in Lincoln, to Archie and MaryLynn Wheaton, their first born child. He attended schools in Norridgewock and Skowhegan, graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in education, and earned his master's degree in school administration from the University of Maine, Orono. In 1967 Barry met his true love, Barbara Scott, whom he married Feb 16, 1968. The couple moved in 1978 to Alexander, where they have resided ever since. He was a schoolteacher and principal for 40 years. He also owned/operated his own sporting camps, was a master Maine guide and a talented musician. He was passionate about trapping, hunting, fishing, guns, knife making and the great outdoors. He enjoyed teaching hunting/trapping courses, writing articles, creating trapping videos and spending time with his family. He was a member of Maine Trappers Association, National Trappers Association, National Rifle Association and Safari Club International. Barry was a wise, compassionate, talented man. He was an amazing teacher and mentor and has touched the lives of so many. He will be missed dearly and lovingly remembered by all who have had the privilege of knowing him. Barry was predeceased by his father, Archie Joseph; and sister, Bonnie Hoyt. Surviving to honor his memory are his mother, MaryLynn Wheaton of Norridgewock; devoted wife, Barbara; four daughters and one son, Robin Gagner of Hampden, Jill Moffitt and husband, Jason, of Holden, Elizabeth Padham and husband, Don, of Embden, Andrea Gagnon of Sidney and Barry Wheaton II and wife, Laurie, of Grantville, Ga.; 13 adored grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three brothers and best friends, Gary and wife, Sally, of Norridgewock, Jonathan and wife, Phyllis, of Alexander and Archie James and wife, Debrah, of Norridgewock; several very special nieces and nephews. Please join us in celebrating Barry's life 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Peoples United Methodist Church, 20 Third Ave., Baileyville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Maine Trappers Association, attention: Linda Bridges, 93 Arundel Road, Kennebunkport, ME 04046.
