Obituary of James P. Chandler

James P. Chandler, Sr., 94 of Greenville, formerly of Swanville, passed away on March 30, 2013. He was born on May 8, 1918 in Addison, Maine, the son of Roscoe and Mary (Manning) Chandler. Jim grew up in the Blue Hill Bay Lighthouse, then moved to Dark Harbor Head also known as the Swans Island Light. After moving off the Lighthouse, he spent a year working on a cow farm in Waldo County, then decided to move to Connecticut with his brother to work on a dam-building project. Jim was working on a foundry in Connecticut when WWII broke out. He volunteered for the Army and served in the Combat Engineers in the Burma/China Campaigns earning three battle stars. After the war, Jim married Helen Pierzanowski in 1946 and then moved the Maine and started their family. After settling in Maine, Jim poultry farmed with his wife along with plowing snow and carpentry work before retiring at the age of 89. During retirement, he spent many years lobstering and taught his grandchildren to lobster and mackerel fish. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp in Brooklin, Maine. One of his favorite pastimes was woodworking, carpentry and was a very skilled furniture builder, dollhouse maker, birdhouse maker and many other things he enjoyed creating. Jim will be remembered for his love for helping others and his strong work ethic up until the end. His family recalls his dedication to doing his exercises and walking every day as well as always keeping busy with various daily projects. He is predeceased by his parents, spouse and several siblings. Jim is survived by his loving son, James Chandler Jr. and wife Karen; a brother Bernard Chandler; his grandchildren, Everett Chandler and wife Joan and their children Grace and Emily, William Chandler and wife Lenore and their children Joshua and Zacharie and Lindsey, Heather Farrington and husband Jason and their children Samuel, Alexander, Andrew and Ethan; many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends and family are invited to call from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 5th at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Court Street, Belfast. Interment will follow at a later date at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt.
