Obituary of Leon W. Barton
LEON W. BARTON JR., 88 of Northport, died April 24, 2013 at Togus Veterans Hospital in Augusta with his loving wife by his side. Born July 18, 1924 in Lincolnville, the son of Leon W. Barton Sr. and Dorothy Mahoney. He was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast. He was also a member of the U.S. Army serving in World War II during the Normandy invasion and landed on the Omaha Beach. Leon received numerous honors including the Battle Star and the Purple Heart. Leon was an avid farmer and held many positions in the Town of Northport. He owned the Blue Goose for over 10 years and was a member of the Excelsior Lodge #151, Belfast American Legion and a charter member of Northport VFW Post #6131.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy of Northport; daughters, Leone Harriman of Northport, Cheryl McCauley of Swanville, and Vickie Knowlton of Northport; sons, Leon C. Barton of Northport, Fred Barton of Farmington and Fern Barton of Northport; a sister Carolyn Berry of Summerfield, Florida and a brother Ed Beckett of Waldo; a very special grandson, Gatlin Knowlton of Northport; granddaughters Shelly Prescott, Melissa Staples, Jessica Ward, Tina Cook, Crystal Barton and Kelli Stark; six great grandchildren Dominic Williams, Cody Williams, Avery Kreamer, Kyle Barton, Nicholas Staples and MacKenzie Cook and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27th 10 a.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue Belfast.
