Carroll's love of music led him to a local singing group, Dot and the HasBeens, where he was regularly recognized for his rendition of "Danny Boy." A lifetime lover of sports, Carroll not only watched from the sidelines, but played baseball and football at MMA and semi-pro baseball and basketball with New Auburn Social Club and with Millinocket area teams, the Emerson's Pills and Aggies in the 1950s.
