Katherine Anna (Nickerson) Harjula, 69, of Swanville passed away from a brief illness on July 23, 2013 in Belfast. She was born on August 9, 1943 in Bath, Maine the daughter of Lloyd and Velma (Page) Nickerson. Kathy graduated from Crosby High School class of 1961. She lived in Maine her entire life. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and children on various camping trips to places including Canada, New England, and New York, and most recently New Brunswick. She worked at Maine State Prison in Thomaston as a secretary, and Ames Department Store in Belfast, as well as being a homemaker. Kathy enjoyed her pet cats, genealogy, and spending time with family at her camp at Pitcher Pond in Lincolnville, Maine, she also enjoyed visiting her daughter in Saco and dipping her toes in the ocean at Old Orchard Beach. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Eric Harjula in 1977, and brother Kenneth Nickerson. Kathy is survived by her loving children Pamela LaRiviere and husband Steven of Saco, and Brian Harjula of New Hampshire; her brother Emery Nickerson and wife Jude of Swanville; grandchildren Tyler and Alex Harjula; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visiting hours will be held from 4-6 pm on Thursday July 25, 2013 at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, Maine. Graveside memorial service will be at 1pm on Friday July 26, 2013 at Wiley’s Corner Cemetery in St. George, Maine.
