Obituary of Elton G Clark

ELTON G. CLARK, 97, died September 12, 2013 at home, with caring and appreciated help from Maine General Hospice, in the house he built on the farm where he was born in Readfield, the son of J. Sabin and Amy E. (Smith) Clark on September 19, 1915. He graduated from Kents Hill School and served in the Army during the Second World War in England and France. After discharge, he married LouElla Keeter. He is a member of the Readfield United Methodist Church, worked for Bob Killiam, the Readfield Elementary School and Maxim’s Supply. He is predeceased by his wife, LouElla and a brother S. Lowell Clark. He is survived by two sons, Steven and his wife Jean and Ernest of Readfield. He is also survived by a sister, Irene Weed of Manchester and Glenridge Nursing. He was proud of the fact he cut the wood for the house on the home place and built the house himself. This is the only place he ever wanted to live and was able to stay because of his belief that exercise was necessary to enjoy life at all. He continued to walk until he fell at 95 and continued to ride the stationary bike til he was 97. Exercising was clearly the reason he kept going, and that made it possible for him to spend his last years at home. Special thanks to neighbors, Larry McDonald, Mark Loiselle and Jay and Donna McIntosh for their help when too many tasks were at hand. Thanks also to the Readfield United Methodist Church for their acts of kindness – including but not limited to their Christmas caroling which he enjoyed immensely. Thanks also to the other people who helped in many ways, including but not limited to doctors, nurses, staff of many sorts and others. There will be no visiting hours or service at this time
