Obituary of Joan W. Crowell

Joan W. Crowell, 76, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 19th, 2014 at her home in Owls Head, surrounded by her family. Joan was born in Malden, MA November 3, 1937, she was the daughter of Francis and Johanna Weaver. She graduated High School in South Portland Maine. Joan attended Westbrook College and became a certified X-ray technician, she worked in a Boston hospital in the field for several years.While raising her family she had many other jobs, ranging from a home day care to driving a school bus. She attended the University of Maine and received her Associates Degree in Accounting. She was employed as a bookkeeper for a Rockland accountant for many years. She opened her own business in her home doing accounting and tax preparation and had many clients ranging from fisherman to non-profit businesses. She retired in 2012 to the dismay of her many long term clients who admired and respected her. She enjoyed getting together with a group of friends also known as “CLUB” for over 40 years. Her varied interests included flying, travel, music, knitting, sewing, reading, and she had a passion for tennis. The past few years she got great pleasure out of watching her grandchildren play in tennis and soccer tournaments. She always showed up for the home games and cheered them on. She was an animal lover, and Siamese cats and black Labs held a special place in her heart. She was a member of Mensa. She was an active member of the Flying Club for many years. She was also a huge supporter of the Owls Head Transportation Museum. She is survived by her son Jose G. Jimenez Jr., daughters Patricia Crowell and Katheryn Watts and her husband Alan Bryce; step children Christine Watts and her husband Joseph Odgen, Laurel Watts, Austin Watts and his wife Helen, James Watts; a brother Wallace Weaver; grandchildren Rachel, Samuel, Chip, Manny, Sarah Kate, Steve, Russell, Lesley, Brandon, John, Cameron, Lily, Avery, Opal, and Anya; great grandchild Brody; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and her beloved husband John. A celebration of her life will be held in the Spring in St. George, Maine.
