Obituary of Lillabel Belle Hawes
Lillabel (Belle) Hawes went home to be with the Lord March 27 at Harbor Hill in Belfast. She was born in Belfast, Oct. 13, 1918, a daughter of the late George E. Sr., and Myra H. Fogg Littlefield. She was the wife of the late Earle A. Hawes, who passed away in 2006.
She attended Belfast schools, was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and was deaconess for many years. Belle worked for the Savitz family in Bayside for several years, The Republican Journal as a proof reader and at the shoe manufacturing company.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary E. Fairfield and husband Frank of Islesboro, and Carol Ellis and husband Willard of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Shelley C. Merrill and husband Gene of Belfast, Lori C. Cunningham and husband Wayne of Belfast, Dennis E. Curtis and wife April of Prospect, Brandon M. Ellis and wife Nadege of Wisconsin, and Courtney A. Whetzel and husband Michael of Pennsylvania; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua Solebello and wife Jennifer and their daughter Alexia Sweet, Dustin and Whitney Cunningham, all of Belfast, Simone and Charlie Ellis of Wisconsin, and Nate and Joshua Whetzel of Pennsylvania; one great- great-grandchild Sophia Solebello of Belfast; three brothers George Jr., Ralph and wife Rena, and Kenneth and wife Christine, all of Belfast, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in death by a half brother Stillman Kelley, a brother Laroy and his wife Lila Littlefield, and sister Doris and her husband Baxter Ward.
Belle will be missed very much by her many friends at Harbor Hill and the community.
A spring graveside service will be held May 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
