Obituary of James William Wannop
James William Wannop passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 in Augusta, Maine after living a full and rewarding life. Born December 27, 1922, to James and Elizabeth Jefferson Wannop, Jim was raised in Fitchburg, Mass. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS North Carolina and the USS Alaska. In civilian life he worked for the City of Fitchburg. After retiring in 1973, he and his wife Doris moved to Camden, Maine where he worked as a self-employed carpenter and renovator.
His love of music and family defined his life. Known for his cheerfulness, kindness and a song for every occasion, he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Jo Desmond of Rockport; grandson, Tony Ziegler of Allston, Mass.; longtime companion, Irene Eaton of Rockport; his sister, Ellen Brown; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, their spouses and children. He was predeceased by wife Doris and his sister Ida Hooper.
A private service will be held for the family with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Memories and condolences may be offered to the family at www.ripostafh.com.
