Obituary of Merlene H. Mead

Merlene H. Mead was called home on Wednesday December 24rd 2014. She passed peacefully with her 3 daughters by her side from a long battle with Alzheimer’s. After graduating from Hartland Academy and also Skowhegan Commercial School she accepted a position in Washington DC where she worked at the Pentagon. In 1953 she married the love of her life George Mead. George was in the Air Force and they moved several times all over the country. After having 3 daughters they settled down and made their home in Hartland, Maine. When George passed away on 1979 she devoted the rest of her life to her family. Merlene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she liked to read, crochet, get in her car and go for a drive but most of all she loved to shop. Merlene lived her final days at the Hawthorne House in Freeport in the Cumberland Unit where she enjoyed living and where she was very, very well taken care by their wonderful staff. Merlene was preceded by her husband, George E. Mead in October 1979. She is survived by three daughters: Sherry Tarr & husband Jerry of Lisbon Falls, Lorrie Fernald & husband David of Bowdoin and Cindy Rogers & husband Dennis of Brunswick. She was also survived by her brother Ronald (Joe) Lewis & wife Christine of Hartland, Grandchildren: Matthew Fernald of Milo, Derrick Fernald of Bowdoin, Ben Tarr of Lisbon Falls, Kim Tarr of Lisbon and Ashley Clark of Lisbon Falls also seven great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 2pm on January 4th at Sky-Hy Conference Center at 32 Sky-Hy Drive Topsham Maine.
