Obituary of Arnold N. Starr

ARNOLD N. STARR. Arnold Starr, 95, a longtime resident of Camden died Monday, January 26 at the Windward Gardens Nursing Home in Camden, where he had been a resident. Born in Bronx, NY, he served in World War II and went on to have a long and accomplished career as a sales executive with several networks, including NBC and Westinghouse. He moved to Camden in 1988 with his wife Ruth. There he worked in sales for a local radio station and for Down East magazine, before retiring in his 80’s. Arnold is survived by three children: Laurence Starr of Camden and his wife Ellen; Douglas Starr of Brookline, MA and his wife Monica Sidor, and Lisa Connolly of Brunswick and her husband Daniel. He leaves five grandchildren: Lindsay Starr (and her husband Matthew Fienman), Noah Starr (and his fiancée Marisa Duchowny), Gordon Starr, Gregory Starr and Mitchell Connolly; and two great-grandchildren: Addison and Hazel Fienman. He is predeceased by his wife Ruth, his son Mitchell Starr, his parents and his siblings Iris and Leon. Aside from leading an active career, Arnold was a devoted family man. At various times he was president of his local synagogue, Cub master of the local chapter of Cub Scouts and president of the parent-teachers’ association of his sons’ elementary school. He loved learning, was an avid fisherman and loved to build things big and small – skills that he passed on to his children. Everyone remembers him for his sharp wit, engaging manner and mischievous sense of humor. The family will hold a celebration of his life at Beauchamp Point in Rockport, at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, honoring Arnold's name with a donation to the non-profit charity, God's Love We Deliver in New York City would be greatly appreciated (www.glwd.org) or to Make a Wish (http://maine.wish.org/). The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Windward Gardens, who made Arnold’s final months such secure and happy ones; and the staff of Camden Hills Villas, who provided Arnold and Ruth with a warm and welcoming community. A special thanks and appreciation goes to Pam Madore, who cared for both of them with love, kindness, and friendship.
