Obituary of Wanda L. Nickerson

Wanda Nickerson of Augusta, Maine, passed away on February 10, 2015 at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.Wanda, born Wanda Lou Ireland on July 20, 1936 in Smyrna Mills, Maine, was the daughter of Elva and Arthur Ireland . Wanda had 2 brothers; Joseph (Joe)Ireland, of Florida and Arthur Jr. (Sonny) Ireland, of Maine, as well as 2 sisters. Dorothy Buxton, affectionately known as Dot, and Laquita, of Connecticut. Wanda married Francis Benjamin Peters, and born to them were 3 sons, Leo, Brent, and Martin Peters (Marty). After Francis' death in 1973, Wanda married Erwin Nickerson and Jody Nickerson was born to them on October 29, 1975. Wanda worked for several years at the G&L Market in Houlton, Maine. She often spoke of the friends she made working there and of the many regular customers she got to know. She worked in several other retail positions in the Houlton area, as well. In her later years, Wanda worked as a Personal Care Attendant, caring for several elderly and/or disabled people. She was very fond of the people she cared for and that affection was returned by the clients and their families. Our mother was a very important part of all our lives. She will be sadly missed. Burial is planned for June at the Merrill, Maine cemetery.
