Obituary of Derriel Byrle Bryant
LEWISTON -Derriel Byrle "Butch" Bryant passed peacefully on Friday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Central Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1941, at Rumford Community Hospital, a son of Derriel and Lillian (Turner) Bryant. He received his education in Peru schools. Butch served in the U.S. Air Force 1958 to 1964.
Butch worked at Hallowell Shoe and was a manager at Bridge Construction, Togas Gate Lodge, Cumberland Farms and Big Apple.
Butch loved to play poker and cribbage. He enjoyed going for rides and fishing. He also was fond of MacDonald's cheese burgers and Flo's molasses cookies.
Butch is predeceased by his brothers William Bryant Sr. of East Wilton, Craig "Bo" Bryant of Canton, and Ed Sandberg of Arizona.
He is survived by his friend of 40 years, Mary Nelson of Pittston; four children: Tiffaney of Michagan, Michelle of Arizona, Shannon and Freddie of Maine; brothers: John Bryant of Virginia, Gordon Goldsmith of Boothbay Harbor; sisters: Florence Haynes of Peru and Paula Benoit of Phippsburg; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. on Oct. 31 at the East Peru Cemetery. After the service his sister Flossie Haynes has invited all to a gathering at her home, 1298 Auburn Street, Peru, Maine. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to your local American Legion Post in his honor.
