Obituary of Floyd E. Raven
Floyd “Manny” E. Raven Jr., 63 of Freedom passed away on Friday October 23, 2015 at Eastern Maine Medical Center with many family members by his side. He was born on August 19, 1952 in Bath the son of Floyd and Julia (Doughty) Raven Sr. Manny attended Mt. View High School in Thorndike. He started his career with his father in concrete foundations, later taking over his business and continuing the family business with his son Luke. Manny was a avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, and cooking. He loved tending his garden and canning the vegetables from it for winter, as well as his pigs and chickens. Manny was known affectionately to his mother as her “little man.” In his retirement he enjoyed reading, playing cards, and watching MTV with his granddaughter BreAnne.
He is predeceased by his spouse Marguerite Raven in 2006; father Floyd Raven Sr. “the old man”; brother in law Fred Overlock; and longtime friend Dwight Hotham.
Manny is survived by his beloved mother Julia Raven of Unity; his ten loving children Lucas Raven, and Brandy Raven both of Freedom, Joanna Hotham and partner Craig Lancaster of Unity, Linda Gardner and husband Wayne, and Billy Hotham and wife Beth all of Patten, Patricia Hotham of Waterville, Sam Hotham and wife Melinda of Newburgh, Sarah Landry and husband Richard, and Dawn Tower and husband Ervin, and Lana Tucker and husband Aaron all of Patten; his siblings Dee Overlock and family, June Raven, Mark Raven all of Freedom, and Karen Seehafer and husband Larry of Wisconsin, Jean Jones and husband Scott and family of Freedom, and Shawn Raven and family of Knox; 19 grandchildren, Valorie, Keith, Bubs, Allison, Andy, Anthony, Brittany, Brandon, Aaron, Ryan, Amy, Shayla, Bradley, Jake, Ross, Chris, Shyanne, Dustin, CJ, and BreAnne; close nephew Dakota; lifelong friend “like a son” Galen Neal Jr.; several great grandchildren.
Manny will be placed in a tomb he built with knowledge on his private family cemetery, next to his wife, in a casket built by his brother Mark with Manny’s concrete forms that he used for all his years in business, at 12pm on Saturday October 31, 2015, Raven Private Cemetery 169 Raven Rd. Freedom, ME.
