Obituary of John A. Maddocks
John A. Maddocks,79, passed away July 22, 2019 at Northern Light-EMMC in Bangor, Me. He was born on January 02, 1940 in Monroe, ME. He was the son of Norman and Geneva (Small) Maddocks.
John was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1958. He served his country as a part of the U.S. Army from 1959-1962. Most of his Service was spent in Germany during the Berlin Crisis, where he met two lifelong friends, Peter Dekramer and Michael Ricketts. He married the love of his life, which he claimed was "love at first sight", Nancy Quimby on August 29, 1964. God graciously allowed 54 years, together. We raised four children, Norman and Richard Maddocks, his brother Eugene's two sons from an early age to adulthood, along with our two birth-children, Melinda “Mindy” and Peter.
John raised Poultry for both the Maplewood and Penobscot Company in Belfast for over 20 years, along with driving School bus for Searsport and Belfast for 50 years. He was very active in his Town of Stockton Springs, and served as a member of the Planning Board, Selectman, and Fire Department. He was also a Christian and served his Lord and Savior as a Deacon and Trustee at the Morrill Baptist Church and the Stockton Springs Community Church. He also served on the Board at Camp Fair Haven for many years.
John like to play as hard as he worked. He loved camping, motorcycling, and ATV riding. He had a 1957 Plymouth Savoy and joined Clubs to ride with others. He loved to hunt deer. He loved yard sales, antiques and most of all, family get-to-togethers. John loved his bus students and their families; he would always stop and ask a former bus student how they were doing, and what they were up to now. He loved to joke and stretch the truth, now and then. He loved to go out with friends and eat a meal. John was a people person and developed many longtime friends.
Surviving is his wife and best friend, Nancy L. (Quimby) Maddocks; his four children and wives, Peter and Alyssa Maddocks of Belfast; grandchildren Zachariah, Caitlin and Mason; step-grandchildren Maddie, Brendon and Gabby; Melinda (Maddocks) Crandall and husband, Michael of San Diego and two grandchildren, Ethan and Mia; Norman and Debbie Maddocks of Turner, and children Jason and Jennifer; Richard and Diana Maddocks of Warren and child, Julie; his brother, Brian of Hampden and children, Michael, Craig, and Chris; wife of his brother, Byron, Nancy Maddocks and children, Rose and Mark.
The family would like to thank Barbara (Bowden) Rozelle, on John's behalf, who constantly was at his bedside during recent hospitalizations. John called her his "adopted" daughter.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Stockton Springs Community Church on Saturday, August 3rd at ll:00. A fellowship luncheon will follow the Service. A memorial service will also be held at Camp on Mattaseunk Lake, in the Medway area in the fall, time not yet determined.
