Obituary of George S. Worthing

George Sanford Worthing 02/03/1926 – 06/07/2019 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. George passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones and friends at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine. He was a life-long resident of Liberty, Maine. George attended schools in Liberty and graduated from high school in 1944. George served in the U.S. Army at the time of the Korean conflict. He was a flight mechanic on planes that flew the border during the occupation of Germany. George was the owner and operator of Worthing's Exxon in Liberty, where he provided auto mechanic services, radio and TV repairs, grocery and gasoline sales. He served on many committees for the Town of Liberty and was a school board member for MSAD 3 for several years. In retirement, he volunteered at the Liberty Historical Society, restored and drove antique autos and maintained a productive garden dressed with hundreds of gladioli. George was married to Carlene Smith of Princeton, Maine from 1949 until her passing in 1995. They had one daughter, Dawn. In 1997 George married Juanita Miller Peavey, gaining a new family and 22 more years of happy married life. George is survived by his wife, Juanita; his daughter, Dawn Boden; his son-in-law, John Boden; his step-daughters Donna Stanley and Diane Benner; his step son-in-law, David Benner; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grand children and several nieces and nephews. At George's request there will be no funeral service and there will be a private burial. Friends are invited to be a part of a “celebration of life” to be held at the Liberty Community Hall on Sunday, June 30 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local ambulance service or the American Heart Association.
