Dearest Menard Family, I had the blessing of meeting you on a plane trip to Maine as I was traveling from Texas with two of my sisters, and you were returning from California. I sat next to Sandra, and from the moment we began talking, I had no doubt that the Lord had ordained that special time for us. Over the course of that one trip, we shared some deep matters of the heart, especially concerning Elias. I must say, our hearts were knit in that short amount of time. Over the next weeks, my sisters and my brother, prayed together for Elias and your family. We felt connected to you as far away as Texas. Our hearts grieve for you more than you can know, but we would not give up the opportunity of having met Elias and his family for anything. Know that you are not forgotten, and we continue to lift you up to the Lord, trusting that He will comfort and carry you.

Dear Elias's family... What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul. He certainly had the best parents to let him live his life to the fullest. Only God knows why these children leave so soon and I hope you can find some peace and comfort knowing you guys are loved and prayed for each day. We are so sorry for what this family is going through, We can’t imagine the pain that they must feel. We think and pray for them often but words can’t describe how sorry we are. To Brian Kelsey Drew and the rest of the extended family. I am so sorry for your loss. Elias was such a sweet boy. Every time we went to visit you all he would have a big smile on his face and the sparkle in his eyes. Even though he was only with us on earth for a short time he made a lasting impression upon those who knew and live him. He will be greatly missed. Elias was my great grandson. Although distance separated us, I got to know him through visits to Maine, and his visit to Connecticut and also FaceTime. Elias touched the hearts of many, in ways we may never know. His teachers, his classmates, his church family and friends and neighbors alike. Elias was a boy filled with energy and a zest for life. He did his best, with the love and support of family, to fill a lifetime of experiences into a short time span of 9 years. Elias taught us much. He taught us about courage, in the face of diminishing abilities. Compassion for the most vulnerable in society, and we learned unconditional love through the caregiving of this beautiful soul. Elias left us many gifts. The most precious being, the gift of himself to all of us. Elias is now back home with God the Creator, Who was waiting with open arms to say “Job Well Done Elias “ brave little soul. Welcome Home.

I was fortunate enough to get to visit Elias on occasion when me and my wife visit Maine. He would always talk about tractors and trucks. I will miss him very much. Thank you for being a fantastic nephew and until we meet again .

When I heard of this last Tuesday I couldn't even repeat it out loud without weeping. No one deserves to lose a child but I can't think of a sweeter couple than you two and to think that you and your family had to go through this is beyond my understanding. Kelsey, your initials are still lighting up the dark on the ceiling of Merri's old room, and when I think of the carefree days when you were all kids, I just wish I could have bottled a bit of that to give to you now. Bryan you are such a sweet man, I remember you and Kelsey on your wedding day. Tears of joy and tears of grief these are parts of our mortal path.
