Obituary of Clayton L. Larrabee

Clayton L. Larrabee, Sr., 73, of Knox, Maine, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2019, at Maine General Medical Center, with family by his side. He was born July 21, 1945, in Knox, Maine, the son of late Geneva and Denby Larrabee. He graduated from Unifree High School in 1963. On June 22, 1962, he married Winona Bradford. Clayton worked for Adams Construction in his early career. He then went into business for himself, running Clayton Larrabee Construction until his illness prevented him from working. Clayton was well known in his community and took every opportunity to give back. He received numerous awards throughout the years including the Mt. View Youth Football Award, the Arthur Fuller Waldo County Little League Award and the Knox Booster Club Award, to name a few. He and Winona were also named Honorary Citizens for the town of Brooks for all the time and energy donated to the town. One of his most cherished accomplishments was the building of Larrabee Field. Nothing brought him more joy than to sit in his living room and watch the youth of Waldo County play on the fields. He was also actively involved in the Knox and Brooks Booster Clubs, Knox Historical Society and Knox Bicentennial Committee. He loved being involved with all things Mt. View High School, down to which color scheme should be used in the uniforms (green and white; no black please). Clayton loved his draft horses, Ben and Buster. He put them in every parade he could and was elated to haul Santa in the Bangor Festival of Lights parade for many years. He is survived by his wife, Winona Bradford Larrabee of 56 years, sons Clayton Larrabee, Jr. of Knox, Rodney Larrabee and his significant other, Susan, of Knox and daughter Tracy and her husband Geoff Robbins of Auburn; grandchildren Derek and Jen Larrabee of Knox, Joshua and Ivy Larrabee of Knox, LeeAnn and her fiance Eric Roberts of Plymouth, Christopher and his fiance Brooke Whitcomb of Machias, Clay Robbins and Tess Robbins of Auburn; great-grandchildren Jordan, Ryan, Jake and Nova Larrabee of Knox; brothers Edwin Larrabee of Knox and Glenn Larrabee of Belfast; his draft horses Ben and Buster. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Brea, NP at Maine General Gastroenterology. Visiting hours celebrating Clayton's life will be held from 4-6 pm at Riposta Funeral Home on Friday March 29, 2019. A funeral service will be held at Brooks Pentecostal Church on Saturday March 30, 2019 at 3 pm.
