Obituary of Walter E. Fogg
Walter Eugene Fogg, 74, died Monday, February 18, 2019 at Sussman House in Rockport with his daughter, Susan and his friend, Kimberly by his side. Born in Camden, September 17, 1944, he was the son of Thurman Leigh and Gertrude Emily Bennett Fogg.
Walter attended Camden schools as well as time spent at Maine Maritime Academy. He was a proud father. He had a close relationship with his daughter, Susan. His eyes always lit up with any mention of her name. Walter was a “jack of all trades” with most of his time spent as fisherman, his least favorite occupation, he was a carpenter as well as had his own tractor trailer for which he covered a lot of miles with his companion Rose.
Walter loved music and singing country music. He learned to play the guitar later in life. He enjoyed writing songs. He and his friend Kimberly sang together and with family attended music get togethers regularly. He loved to tell of his time in Nashville performing and meeting people. He enjoyed sharing his music with his granddaughter Riley and great grandsons Gavin and Dylan. This year’s Christmas gifts were Ukuleles. He enjoyed sharing his songs, even during his last few days, with the employees of the Sussman House. Walter liked people. He was a member of the Burketville Grange. He had a way of making lasting friendships wherever he went. His friends knew him to be an observer, a person who focused on what he believed in but would not impose those opinions on others. He was unassuming, but truly loved life.
Other than his parents, Walter was predeceased by his siblings; Arthur Dority, John Dority, Kathleen McConnell as well as a stepson, Jason DeWitt. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Whitman of Appleton, Grandson Justin Porter of Spruce Head, Granddaughter, Riley Whitman of Appleton/Rockland, great grandson’s Gavin and Dylan Porter of Spruce Head; Friend, Kimberly DeWitt of Bucksport and stepdaughter Angela Rogerson of Bangor; sister in law, Hazel Dority of Tennessee, a dear friend Peter Wentworth of Gorham, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. And his beloved dog Lizzy known as “Grampy’s Girl”.
Thank you to all that were able to come to the Sussman House. It truly meant a lot to him. A sincere thank you to all the staff at the Sussman House for providing care, comfort, dignity and grace to my father. He will be sadly missed by friends and family. A graveside service followed by a celebration of life and music will be held at a later date.
