John was a quick wit who had a natural talent to put people at ease. His sense of humor became even more developed when he put pen to paper. His correspondence refined the evolving joke. When he served as treasurer for the Greenlawn Cemetery Association I received the most delightful thank you letters for donations. A real benefit to giving! We were in high school at the same time. John represented the high school at Boys State which required living away from his home for a short term. He mistakenly took his grand mother’s toothbrush instead of his own. He did know this until he was back home. This grossed him out so much that all you had to say was “grandmother toothbrush “ and John would turn into a quivering bowl of jelly. Not his kind of joke I guess. John, thanks for the memories! Your prom date, Judy (Clements) Packer

John was a good friend to me and I'll miss him. Beneath the crusty exterior was a man who had a big heart, cared about things, and would help you when you needed it, even if he didn't particularly see eye to eye with you. He was proud of his family and despite his reluctance to travel in the last few years, he cared for them deeply. Kirk John was a charmer, always with a twinkle in his eye, and he would make you feel good about yourself. I'll miss him. Judy Irwin

John was the first Crosby classmate I met after moving to Belfast in the summer of '57, before our sophomore year. We shot hoops together at the park. We've remained good friends over 60 years and recently enjoyed a periodic guys night out with a few others at Darby's. We kidded him about always being a ladies' man. I recently learned that all three of my younger sisters, as well as probably half the girls in high school, had a crush on him. He was a great guy to be around, with his warm smile and keen wit. We'll all miss him. Karen and I send our heartfelt condolences to Shirley, Marta and the entire family.
