Obituary of Maurice Penney
Maurice E. Penney, (Moe), 89, died peacefully Saturday, June 9, at Tall Pines in Belfast where he had resided for 4 years.
Moe was born in Knox, March 10, 1929 to the late Norman and Maddalena Penney. He graduated from Freedom Academy where he played basketball and baseball. His love of sports continued throughout his life and he would often watch the Patriots, Celtics and especially loved the Red Sox.
Maurice moved to Connecticut where he became employed by the railroad. After spending 40 years at various railroads he retired from Amtrak passenger service in 1991. He and his late wife Myrtle returned home to Thorndike for the summers and spent the winters in Lutz, FL.
Maurice is survived by his 3 daughters Anne Wing, Rockland, ME, Dorene Penney, Mashpee, MA, Denise Maher and her husband Roy, Plymouth, MA and his step children Rosalie Cole, Pocasset, MA, Clifton Bumpus, Lewiston, ME, Bradford Martin, Westbrook, CT, Nicholas Brown, Thorndike ME, Veronica Kupferman and her husband Ken, Knox, ME. He was the brother of the late Carl Penney. He was a grandfather to 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday June 16, 2018 at the Knox Ridge Cemetery in Knox. Arrangements have been entrusted to Riposta Funeral Home.
