Obituary of Royce Eugene Penney

Royce Eugene Penney, the beloved patriarch of The Penney Farm, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Burnham Me. on December 25th, 2017. Royce was born the son of Roscoe & Gladys Penney of Knox Me. August 14th, 1932. He had two sisters, Mabel, and Marguerite, a niece Carolynn Cunningham, nephew Darrell Ward, and a niece Roxanne Ward. Royce graduated from Freedom Academy in 1951, and went on to join the Army in order to fulfill his everlasting thirst for knowledge. A Korean war veteran, Royce served his country honorably, battling on the front lines as a gunner, reaching the rank of corporal. He married his wife Marie, and had two sons, Kenneth and David, who blessed them with their grandchildren Shannon, Shyanne, Wayne, and KelleyJo as well as multiple great grandchildren. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Royce was a furniture maker employed by Ethan Allen for many years, then retired when they closed their doors for good in 1990. Not one to stay idle, he worked alongside his dear friend Chris Cook in the carpentry trade. Not a single blade of grass grew under Gramp’s feet. His golden years, sunup to sundown, found him out back tending his prized possessions he often won ribbons for. Periodically, he could be caught taking a break, scratching away at his next chance to win the big one, or watching his favorite team, The Red Sox. "Joker" will be fondly remembered by his ability to humor those around him, for growing the biggest pumpkins, and his knack for being able to catch a trout out of a mud puddle, all things that he graciously passed on to his loved ones. Royce leaves this little diddy: “I went up humble stumble, I looked out hazel grazel, there I saw a unicle chronicle crinicle that sat in my pritical practical presence. I called for my son John, to come with the finnable fanible to shoot the unicle chronicle crinicle, that sat in my pritical practical presence.” In keeping with Royce’s wishes, there will be no service. Donations in his memory can be made to The 5th Annual Unity Pond T-Pot memorial ice fishing derby, sponsored by the Unity fire department, in honor of his love of the lake and ice fishing.
