Obituary of Lilla Sally Hubbard
Lilla May Hubbard (Sally) passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on December 28, 2017. She was born November 16, 1931 on Unity Plantation to Katherine and Everett Cook.
Sally married the of her life, Albert Hubbard, on December 24, 1947. Together they spent close to seventy years raising children, foster children and grandchildren. They worked the family farm in Brooks from 1963 until their much-deserved retirement in 1987. They relocated to Freedom where they tirelessly took care of two of their disabled children and two grandchildren.
After retirement, Sally and Albert went back to school to earn their GED’s. Sally earned a slightly higher GPA than Albert, a point in which she gleefully told often. After receiving her GED, Sally attended school to earn her CNA license.
She then worked at a nursing home in Albion for several years before health problems forced her to retire.
Family was the most important thing to Sally and Albert. They were always there for anyone in need. Sally took care of her mother and sister Clarissa while still working the farm and raising children. Together they instilled in their children and grandchildren the belief that as long as you had family you were rich in life. Material things did not matter to them but they made sure their children and grandchildren had everything they could give them.
After declining health, Sally and Albert made their home at Harbor Hill in Belfast. There Sally flourished, becoming a social butterfly and a much-loved resident by all.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Albert, brothers David and George, sister Clarissa, and sons, Richard, Albert Jr. and Carl.
Sally is survived by daughters Sally and husband Henry Kenney, Nancy and husband Ron Ray, Della Heath, Lori Hubbard and Linda Cunningham, sons Phil Hubbard and Chris Hubbard and his wife Diane, special niece and nephew Ruth and Jack Ayer, daughter-in-law Pam Hubbard, twelve grandchildren, four step grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Special thank you to the Harbor Hill staff who took such good care of Sally and to Ethel who was a buddy and who brightened her days.
Dad and the boys are waiting for you Mom, give them our Love.
A graveside service celebrating Sally’s life will be held in the spring.
