A beautiful lady, cheerful and friendly, played the first cardboard dulcimer i had ever seen. A fearless and festive life lived by a lovely person

It sounds like Rosie was a remarkable person with an inquisitive mind and a passion for life and learning. She was blessed to be cared for by Susan and Chris in her last months of life. I hope the memories of her rich life help her family through the challenging journey through grief. My thoughts and prayers are with her whole family.

It’s really hard losing Rosie, one of our “moms”. I know she was ready to go, and she certainly lived a long and active life... but it’s still the passing of a dear extended family member. Rosie was a central figure in our lives growing up on Hamilton St. Sending my love and warmth to all her family.

Love to all the Marshalls from the Oshanas. Rosie was, and will always be, a second mom, and we will miss her terribly.

I have known the Marshalls since I was a kid growing up in West Philly. Rosemary was a kind and positive person who always made me feel better after I spoke with her. She was also very generous. I remember going camping with them in Medford NJ at a brown water lake, and seeing water turtles. They had a little brown dog named tangiers . Another Summer, Per went with us for a time to Kentucky, where he spotted a Copperhead one night on the back porch! She was always proud of a former taxi Checker Marathon Behemoth that seemed to last forever. Rosemary and family was someone I periodically reflected on and had fond memories of. Rest in Peace.

Grandmom was a lovely grandmom. She lived in a nursing home called Stapley which was very beautiful. She watched videos of Tai Chi and we would do it together. I will always remember the Easter Egg hunts at Stapley. I would bring flowers to grandmom with my mom mom Charity. I will always remember grandmom. Best, from Ella

Sending big love to all the Marshalls from across the (metaphorical) street. I'm saddened to hear of Rosie's passing, though glad she got to spend her final months at home. I also thought I'd share two ways in which Rosie has always and will always live in my life. First, I've gotten to an age where I now call young people "kiddo," which I got directly from her. Second, I can't pass by peonies without thinking of the ones she grew in your front yard, and walking by your fence and smelling them was the first time I fell in love with a flower.

Please know that you are in my heart. You made Rosemary's last year so special and peaceful. I met her many years ago and felt her goodness, .and reading about her life, I understand even better how Chris became the wonderful man he is and how Susan shared her light with her. Rosemary was well loved and contributed much to this world. With love, Marcye

We got the card from Mary at the Central Philadelphia Meeting office today. It was sad news. Rosemary was very kind to my mother, when Mother first moved to Stapeley. It was very well-said (by the author of the obituary) that Rosemary had a sense of "people first" decorum and kindness. Would the family like to have a memorial meeting for worship under the care of the Meeting? Some of the other residents at Stapeley would like to hold a memorial service. I have left messages for Chris and Paul. Please let us know what you would like us to do. Patricia Stewart

Thank you, Mary, for writing to me. I will pass the sad news along to the ECRS community. My thoughts are with you and your family. Karen Wisnia (My husband, Kirk Wattles, remembers various Marshall kids at ECRS in the 1960s. I remember Rosemary and Charity at ECRS in the 1980s.)

Thinking especially of you, Chris and Mary, who I taught in First Day School about a century ago. My tears are also for me, because I never "got enough" of Rosemary, such a remarkable spirit and delightful, passionate, one-of-a-kind human being. She's one of the Quakers that influenced me simply by being so fully her Quaker self, and I'm better for it. I'm moved that you made it possible for her to have her last months at home. The kindness that lights each generation. Thanks, George George Lakey, long ago Powelton Preparative Meeting, now Central Philly Meeting, still living in West Philly.
