Obituary of Constance Cooper

CONSTANCE (SWIFT) COOPER, 92 of Belfast, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2017. She was born on February 10, 1925 in Sharon, Massachusetts, the daughter of D. Morton and Esther (Merritt) Swift. She worked in Boston until she met and married her husband of 64 years, G. Andrew Cooper. Connie and Andy settled in Belfast. She was employed by the Cooperative Extension Service of Waldo County until she retired. Connie also worked for Nickerson CPAs long after her retirement. Living in Belfast, Connie became a member of the First Church where she was choir director and soloist for 25 years. She was a member of the Eight O’Clock Club and the hand bell choir at the church. Connie always joked that she didn’t want to be a golf widow and began playing golf. She continued playing until just a few years ago. While a member at the Northport Golf Club, she was a member of the Board, played on the Ladies League and the Twilight League. She was an avid reader and loved playing bridge and mahjong. Connie also loved sewing, knitting, quilting and many other crafts. She loved to travel. Connie and Andy vacationed in Hawaii. After retiring, she traveled many times with her daughters going all over Europe and Great Britain with many other trips around the United States. Connie was predeceased by her sisters, Anne Hardy and Joan Cahill. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Andrew “Andy” Cooper; daughters Kristin Cooper of South Portland, Candace DiBiase and husband Richard III of Belfast, Kerry Yeaton of Bellingham, MA; granddaughters, Erica Barton and husband Todd of N. Attleboro, MA, Jordan DiBiase of Belfast; great-granddaughter Katelynn Yeaton of N. Attleboro; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 27th from 4-6 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home. A private interment for family members only will be held at Grove Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the First Church in Belfast, Music Department, 8 Court Street, Belfast, ME 04915.
