Obituary of Priscilla Mae Place
MORRILL - Priscilla Mae Place, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 18, 2017. She was born January 1, 1931, sharing her birth-time with her twin sister, Phyllis who predeceased her. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (White) Gelo.
Priscilla grew up in Searsmont in a large family of 10 children. She was very close with her siblings and continued those relationships to include many nieces and nephews. She was well loved by all. Priscilla was a great bargain hunter and loved attending yard sales. She enjoyed sports, particularly golf, which she played, and watching the Red Sox, although if they were behind, she turned the TV off and only on again when she had determined they were in the winning phase. She started her working career at Waldo County General Hospital in 1949 as a Nurse's Aide and retired from the hospital after 60 years as the executive secretary to the CEO. She also had three sisters who worked at WCGH over the years she was employed there, and the four of them were an awesome quartet. She always spoke fondly of her years of service to WCGH and the many, many friends she worked with over the years.
Priscilla was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Malcolm Place, and a son, Roger Wayne Place. She is survived by a daughter, Ramona Marden and her husband, Michael of Morrill, two sons, Timothy and his wife Beth of Verona Island and Jamie and his wife Sandra of Morrill. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Jeremy, Chad, Timmy, Joseph, Stephanie, Liza, Amanda and Danny and six great grandchildren with three more on the way. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Frances Wilson of Palermo and Carol Robbins of Searsmont and by a brother, Bruce Gelo of Corinna. Friends and family will miss her great wit, her talent for poem writing and always having an opinion.
At Priscilla's wishes, there will be no service or visiting hours. A special thank you goes to her private physician, Dr James Delehanty, David and Wanda of MaineHealth Hospice and Ellen and Jaylene of Private HomeCare. Ellen was with Priscilla at the time of her death, and the family appreciates her loving care of our mother as she departed this world.
